      This fifth book in Hunter's Warrior Series brings more unrest to the feline warrior clans, who face growing internal divisions. Hunter's cat characters (with names like Firestar and Mosspelt) each have their own virtues and demons. Nanette Savard is an inspired choice for narrator; there's a feline quality to her voice that's perfect here, a kind of purring undertone. Savard also brings a quiet dignity to lines like "you're a warrior, not a moonstruck rabbit" and conveys the serious nature of the cats' situations, and the often ferocious world in which they live.       Gr 5-8 -Erin Hunter -s fourth book (HarperCollins, 2006) in the series is the most compelling one so far. The Cat Clans are struggling to establish territories in a world where dangers and resources are yet to be found. Having been forced to leave due to -two-leggeds - - destruction of their world, unexpected alliances were forged between the Clans as they journeyed to an unfamiliar land. Creating new boundaries for the Clans challenges those temporary alliances. It is of utmost importance to reconnect with the StarClan, the warrior ancestors whose guidance oversees the selection of new leaders, medicine cat secrets, and faith that they -re following the correct path. There -s a healthy dose of feline personification, complete with moral and emotional struggles urging the story along. Personal jealousies and passions seem natural in this reading by Nanette Savard. Her subtle voice changes have sufficient dramatic effect to help listeners identify which cat is speaking.       Nanette Savard rises to the challenge of portraying a cast of emotional, adventurous, and ingenious characters, all of whom are cats. After many weary days of travel, the Clans have arrived in their new home, where they must establish territories and identify the many new dangers: "twolegs," "kitty pets," Sharptooth, and more. While pronouncing names like Squirrelflight, Ashfoot, Onewhisker, Brambleclaw, Leafpool, and Tawnypelt, Savard neither stumbles nor breaks her smooth pace. Her narration is crisp and clear, and she knows how amplify the drama by building tension. As this final book of the series ties together loose ends and settles old scores, listeners will find that a familiarity with the prior books in the series might be helpful. Nanette Savard brings out the youth of the cats who are struggling to help their clan survive and to protect each other from outside danger.       This manga—the fifth based on Hunter's immensely popular children's series—follows the adventures of the cat Sasha after she leaves the Tigerclan, horrified by Tigerstar's growing violence; it picks up where Warriors
      : Tigerstar and Sasha
      left off. Sasha wrestles with whether she should return to live among the “housefolk” or make a life for herself in the forest. Her travels take her to dangerous city streets, the suburbs and a boat, and allow her to make new friends. Along the way, she learns to value herself and trust her instincts. Hudson's artwork brings Sasha's emotional journey to life, showing each moment of fear, anxiety, contentment and joy. The cat's-eye perspective of many of the panels, in addition, add a dramatic, energizing element to the book. Jolley's story breaks no new ground, but he offers a nicely paced tale that should resonate with young adult readers struggling to find their own place in the world, as well as cat fanciers of any age. Girls may especially benefit from reading about Sasha's decision to walk away from the powerful Tigerstar. A twist at the end will leave fans eager for the next installment of Sasha's saga.

      In the third and fourth books in this series, the cats abandon their homes and travel to the new place foretold by StarClan. The Clans adapt to working together, then must separate to establish new territories. Hunter easily balances multiple plot lines and points of view, creating a believable world.
