In these slim, pocket-sized (6 by 4.5 in.) guides to European cities, Steves spotlights a handful of walks that show off the best places to have memorable experiences. Each book begins with a "City at a Glance" section that provides details about the city itself and its must-sees. For each walk, there's a map of the route and a hyper-detailed itinerary. Readers are told how to travel smartly, when to go, how long each walk is, and what they'll see along the way. Color photographs of some of the city's landmarks are sprinkled throughout. Steves also provides historical and cultural details about the city, along with useful phrases in the city's official language. One of the highlights of these books is their packing checklists. Librarians should be aware that the guides include a detachable map. VERDICT A series that's easy to carry but packed with travel advice for people who want to take urban walking explorations.
